Aside from the video how can I not talk about Whitney Houston? It’s difficult to
imagine a world without Whitney and that voice. It’s a strange feeling to morn
a woman that I didn’t know; bizarre to think that a stranger could have such a
large part in my upbringing. I’ve literally been listening, watching and looking
up to Whitney for my entire life. With my hair in bunches I sang ‘Saving All My
Love for You’, I danced around the kitchen with my Mum to ‘I Wanna Dance With
Somebody’, cried over and over again to the Bodyguard, auditioned for Mystique
with ‘It’s Not Right But it’s ok’ sang ‘I believe in You and Me’ at my Brother’s
wedding and went to see her live for my 18th birthday present. She was an
incredible teacher; a close friend and I will forever miss never hearing or seeing
her soar again.

Rest well Whitney.

Much will and has been said about the loss of Music’s brightest stars, first
Michael then Amy and now Whitney. I have my own very strong feelings about
the huge drug and drink problems in my industry glamorized by the press and
the ‘cool’ people seemingly beyond the rules that govern the rest of us. Sex,
drugs, money, power, booze an exciting and tantalising promise of celebrity that
sucks in far too many. We love to watch them struggle, the bitter sweet turmoil
laced with god like talent, we love to watch them fall we love to watch them rise
never truly believing that there may come a time when they don’t get up. I’m
never one to judge we all have our problems our own personal cross to bare.
The story of Pandora’s box isn’t new and perhaps holds a very relevant message
to our ‘affluenza’ stricken society. All I will say is remember; what goes up must
and always does come down.

I spent most of last year working on and off the road with my band. It was brilliant to play around with the songs and to experiment. So we took our favourite songs from the gigs and produced them live! Check out the behind the scenes video if you want a sneak peak.

Its a short 5 minute video where you can see the backing singers, the guys putting down strings and other sounds plus a sneak peak at the new sound this EP has to offer.

On a plus side (just about hanging on to my main new year’s resolution!!) I haven’t smoked for 16 days now!!! To celebrate I was looking through a few videos on youtube to send to a few recently reformed non-smoking friends and found this-do you remember these videos? SO SO funny!!

We did a performance for Smooth FM supporting Caro Emerald at Band on the wall Manchester(picture below), two gigs supporting Roachford at the London Jazz Café and to top it off a trip to Harley Street. No I didn’t have liposuction or Botox incase you were wondering although it was tempting! I had to see a voice doctor to check out my vocal chords (thankfully I don’t have any serious damage/problems although I have been very worried).

Anyway where was I? It was a brilliant night in Manchester; Caro, the gang from Smooth and all the audience folk were so lovely and I even managed to pick up a Xmas Eeyore for Mum.

Supporting Roachford was as ever a privilege seeing him in action is very inspiring and to play at The Jazz café was definitely an experience that I hope to repeat.

The week before Xmas was crammed shopping with aisle fights over carrots with old ladies and a last minute Tax and VAT return-how exciting!! So what will head our way for 2012?

I may have been disgracefully slack in sticking to my resolutions over the years but this year I really mean it!!! Why you may ask? Well I have recently discovered that I’m nearly a stone heavier than my sister who has just had a baby and I’ve had a scare with my vocal chords. People a change is definitely gonna come…. No more booze (at least for now) and no more fags they have to gooooo! I’ll keep you posted gang and good luck in keeping your resolutions…..

Next in the diary is a Gig with Caro Emerald in Manchester which should be a good one, so expect to hear some of the stuff I’ve been working on in the studio. There will be more to look forward to in the new year.

Well I must say, the tour is going swimmingly well. Today I’ve been enjoying a very nice day off although I did melt my toaster earlier (whoops). So what’s next? York, Bristol, portsmouth, Birmingham (yes this time we will be playing there not just going to Cardiff via Birmingham) oh and of course a big birthday but we won’t say too much about that!!!

Tomorrow we’re in Cardiff so I need to have a quite night in; a frightening thought incase I accidentally hit the wrong button on the remote control and stumble upon the show that must not be named!!!

We’ve finished a mix of my song Hour Of Sunshine with Ash Howes and Stephen Lironi – both fantastic people to work with. Ash Howes is also working on some final mixes of some of my other tracks. It’s nice to hear how new ears and talent bring new life to a song.

We’re moving straight into rehearsal dates now for the tour with Roachford which I can’t wait to get stuck into. You can see the dates on my page.

I’m also excited to have had some great radio interviews and a music review show with BBC Radio Manchester which was all great fun.

There’s loads happening in the future so we’ll keep you updated with pics and anecdotes!
